Family Stories
Every family is unique and has their own story to tell.
When you work with me, expect your photos to feel true to you. I keep posing to a minimum, focusing instead on capturing genuine connections. Think of me as a fly on the wall — just enjoy the activities you love doing together while I capture those moments.
Photographs are powerful tools for preserving our life stories. They help us recall those precious, fleeting moments we might otherwise forget.
What do you want from your professional photos? Are you looking for larger-than-life portraits, or do you want to remember how you felt during your family's special milestones?
I specialize in capturing those tiny loving interactions, laughter, cuddles, playtime, and moments of true connection.
I believe joy lives in the small things, which can often get lost in the hustle of everyday life. The photos we create together will help you hold on to the sparkle even when life gets busy.
Here are a few of my favourite moments:
How it works? Family
How does it all work?
1.before the shoot
Your journey with me starts with an initial consultation, either via phone or email, where we determine what will work for your family. We will discuss activities that you love doing together. Where do you usually do these? At home? At your local park? At the beach, or at the grandparent's?
Maybe you are wanting photos of your kid's birthday party, or an extended family dinner? I don't charge extra for extended family shoots. In fact, the fly-on-the-wall approach works even better, when a lot is going on to keep everyone engaged. Together, we will determine the best time and place for your individual photo shoot.
Even though, I do not think it is necessary to dress a certain way, I do get asked a lot about what clothes to wear. I am happy to give guidance if you feel overwhelmed with choices. In the end, we want you all to look your best. Keep it natural! I am not a big fan of colour-matching outfits, or everyone wearing white t-shirts.
2. On the day
On the day, I will take time to greet and get to know everyone and make everyone feel at ease. Depending on what length of session you have booked, and what we have discussed on the phone, we will shoot a few different activities, let the kids play by themselves, and take a couple of "staged" family photos.
We will keep it light-hearted and fun. Kids are allowed to throw tantrums, babies are allowed to cry, sleep, or breastfeed and adults are allowed to need time to get over that awkward feeling cameras tend to evoke. My "short" session is 1.5 hours long for a reason. I want us to spend enough time together to allow for all eventualities. I always say it takes time to warm up to the camera. Once, it has been around for a little while, it is easier to forget that there is a big lens staring at you. Only then can authentic, natural and magical moments happen in front of the camera.
I am not interested in repeating a certain formula for capturing great family photos. My whole spiel is about capturing what makes your family unique and telling stories that resonate with your real-life experience.
3. receiving your photos
Within fourteen days, you will receive your online gallery and download images. You do not need to worry about choosing your favourites, as the whole gallery is yours to keep. I deliver your images in high resolution for printing (up to a size of 50x30cm) and in a lower resolution optimised for screens, so you can go ahead and share them with your friends and family. I recommend downloading and saving your photos as soon as possible and saving them in at least two separate locations (cloud, external drive).
hold on to your memories forever!

"Jana is an amazing photographer with the gift to capture those special moments. She shot a set of photos of our 3yo daughter and the pictures are absolutely adorable. I could tell she was experienced working with children the way she gained their trust and attention making these pictures possible."
