Natural Portraits for Camera-Shy Creatives: At-Home Headshots in Brisbane

This summer, I’ve had the privilege of photographing two artists in their studios and capturing professional headshots for a writer at her home here in Brisbane. While their crafts differ, they all shared one thing in common: their environment deeply shapes their creative practice. They also shared another trait—they were all admittedly camera-shy people.

Luckily, I love the challenge of helping even the most camera-averse individuals feel comfortable in their own skin. One major takeaway from these recent sessions is that taking your portraits at home (or in your workspace) makes it significantly easier to relax. You don't need a formal studio for a high-quality result; it can be as simple as finding a clean white wall or using the natural greenery in your backyard.

For Brisbane creatives and artists whose work is studio-based, being in their own space is crucial. It felt like a special gift to be invited into the worlds of Barbara and Nameer. Their studios reflect not only their artistic vision but their true identity—and that is exactly what a natural business portrait should capture.

As for Jane, she was grateful that I could offer a mobile headshot session at her house. Having her picture taken made her feel quite nervous, and she instinctively knew that being at home would make the process easier. Looking at her stunning professional headshots, you would think she was a seasoned expert in front of the lens.
